Transfer Gossip – Barcelona Starlet On The Chelsea Radar

As first reported by the Chelsea Chiefs many months ago (seriously, search the blog for Sergio Roberto {in fact, google image search Sergio Roberto and the first picture should link to the Chelsea Chief blog post!), young Barcelona midfielder Sergio Roberto is a reported interest of Chelsea FC.

Barca’s Roberto could be coming to Stamford Bridge

The Blues are hoping to pair the midfielder with his old Barca team-mate Oriol Romeu and are hoping their good relationship in the transfer market with Barcelona will enable the Blues to land the youngster. Hopefully David Luiz won’t be involved in the transfer deal at all!

I for one enjoy reading stories of Chelsea buying young players. My only concern is their lack of game play. Courtois went straight out on loan. Lukaku needs to go out on loan or just play more and we need to be patient with him as he adapts to the English game. Our brightest youngster McEachran needed a loan and still didn’t get game time at Swansea. Romeu started his Chelsea career brightly but was almost frozen out by RDM.  So with De Bruyne and Marin joining Hazard in the Chelsea midfield next year, places in the squad are at a premium. Especially considering Bertrand can do a job in midfield.

Whilst the outgoing players are Kalou and Bosingwa (HOORAH!), what about Malouda and dare I say it Essien? I think Malouda’s days must be numbered and Michael Essien, and it hurts me to say it, hasn’t been the same player since his injuries over the last 2 seasons.

Essien hasn’t been the same since his injuries

I feel bad for the Bison, but he may need to be moved on, meaning Chelsea need another combative Midfielder with Mikel is out injured. Meireles is a similar-ish type of player, but I wouldn’t mind seeing M’Villa in Chelsea blue.
