Now is the Summer of our discontent

Chelsea have signed the following players this English summer:

  1. Thibaut Courtois
  2. Oriol Romeu
  3. Romelu Lukaku (still pending would you believe)

There’s 18 days till the transfer window closes so Luka Modric may still join (and we may lose Yossi in the process). But that’s about it. Here’s a top ten of players Chelsea have been linked with in this window:

  1. Kaka – still at Madrid
  2. Pato – still at Milan
  3. Neymar – still at Santos
  4. Aguero – joined City
  5. Cahill – still at Bolton
  6. Pastore – chose PSG instead
  7. Modric – still at Tottenham
  8. Bastos – still at Lyon
  9. Van der Wiel – still at Ajax
  10. Falcao – re-signed at Porto

So far, as Andre Villas-Boas has come into the team and Yuri Zhirkov and  few promising youngsters, namely Jeffrey Bruma, have left the side, albeit Bruma is on a 2yr loan. The core of the side that struggled with injuries and slumped to the club’s worst run since the premier league inception last season remains the same. Anelka has not been replaced, Kalou is still there, Malouda will battle on, Essien is injured till January and MacEachran and Sturridge are not assured of a Chelsea stay this season as one or both may go out on loan.

What’s changed? Are we better than last season? Significantly better to give Manchester United, who have invested, a run for their money for the title? What’s the plan for the season AVB? Are we expecting Torres to score 40 goals? Where will the assists come from?

On the eve of the Premier League’s first weekend of the season, this Chelsea Chief is a tad concerned we haven’t significantly improved to win the league or the Champions League. It’s niave to believe you can do more without changing, coaching change considered.

Can they do it, again?

Look at it this way, our largest signing to date is on loan for the next two years. Since when was Chelsea unappealing for the world’s best players?

We live in a scary, Mancunian dominated world.
